What is S.O.L.A.R.?
S.O.L.A.R. is a Southeast Michigan based social club with more than 400 members dedicated to the enjoyment of nature and outdoor activities. Whether you are a beginner or experienced wilderness enthusiast, S.O.L.A.R. members offer classes and trips for all skill levels and interests. Some of those classes, trips and activities include:
- Dog Sledding
- Bird watching
- Search & Rescue
- Wilderness Survival
- Ultralite Backpacking
- First Aid
- Snow Shoeing
In addition to classes, S.O.L.A.R. members also lead numerous diverse trips and activities. These range from easy and relaxing trips to those that would challenge the most ardent adventurers with specialized skills.

S.O.L.A.R. President Jennifer Tislerics and Instructor Jeff McWilliams were interviewed about the club on Channel 50's Street Beat program, as part of its focus on Nature and the Environment.

Membership starts as low as $40 a year and includes discounts to several retail outfitters, access to S.O.L.A.R.-owned equipment, a monthly newsletter describing upcoming events, and a chance to meet hundreds of other like-minded people. S.O.L.A.R. members are drawn together by a common love of pristine waters, breathtaking vistas, virgin forests, scenic shorelines and the experiences to be found there.
Want to learn more about S.O.L.A.R.? -All adventures begin at our member meetings, held the last Tuesday of the month in Livonia, Michigan. -Meetings are held at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 27475 Five Mile Road, starting at 7:00 pm. - There you’ll meet other members and learn about classes and activities.
